The Amazon vs "Future" row keeps on getting interesting at every turn. After accusing Future of violating contractual terms, Amazon has now accused the Indian retailers of insider trading.

The Battle Continues

Amazon and Jeff Bezos are in no mood to let Reliance take the upper hand in Indian retail market. In another attempt to block Reliance's takeover of Future Retail, Amazon has asked India's market regulator (SEBI) to investigate Future Retail Ltd for insider trading.

This isn't Amazon's first attempt at blocking the deal and it pretty much will not be their last. Amazon had earlier approached SEBI to block the deal citing allegations regarding Future's violation of the deal it had with Amazon that prevented it from selling to Reliance.

All eyes on the verdict

It remains to be seen whether Indian courts and regulators will side with Amazon or Future Retail. The verdict will also be a key test of whether Indian firms, courts and regulators will respect arbitration decisions made in accordance with overseas arbitration rules.

Bottom line: As the days pass, the tension keeps rising and the skirmish looks most likely to go to the wire.
